After introducing his ideas in the Commentariolus, Copernicus continued to work on his ideas for the remainder of his life. When he was 66, with the help of Georg Joachim Rheticus , a German scholar from Wittenberg, Copernicus assembled his life's work on astronomy into a treatise that was eventually published in Germany.

Organic Chemistry 1 - Introduction / Basic Overview

The publication of De Revolutionibus produced little controversy during the immediate 75 years following its publication. Copernicus had died the same year it was published, and its preface presented the work as a hypothetical model. There were strong scientific and philosophical arguments that precluded its acceptance. One serious flaw was that parallax of the stars was not observed.

    The Basics of Chemistry

Nov 25, Ian Colby rated it it was amazing. Anyone who gave this book less than three stars must have been forced to read it for school. Except for a few lapses in writing judgment and what seems like a section missing on what double or triple bonds are , this is an exceptional introduction to chemistry. Consider me fascinated.

That fascination stems from this book's ability to peak my interest about possibilities in chemistry, without bogging me down in too much info for a layperson. Myers covers the basics of atoms, elements, compounds Anyone who gave this book less than three stars must have been forced to read it for school.

Myers covers the basics of atoms, elements, compounds, and the various properties exhibited by the former, then moves on to special applications of these properties most interesting to me - environmental chemistry. It's perfectly balanced. At no point did I feel bogged down in abstract theory, nor did I feel like a practical application was described without the elemental level mechanics explained. Now I want to continue learning chemistry. But as a side benefit, the book also taught me the proper way to peel an egg with an acid such as vinegar and how I should properly season my cast iron pan.
